Default So, how is it?

Hi all,

As some of you may remember, I quit this game and faded from these forums because of Factions. The previews of Nightfall have gotten some good reviews from a few people I trust here but I'm still a little wary since the previous chapter was such a let down.

I'm curious to hear from people who have been playing from the get-go how this chapter compares.

Is it less claustophobic?
More aesthetically pleasing?
Longer?
Bigger?
More "do what you want" and less "herd you to the endgame"?
Is the story-line interesting?
Are there plot twists?
Are the new characters fun to play with different feels to them than the ones that already exist?

If anyone would be willing, I'd love to hear an extensive comparison without revealing any good surprises. I really just don't want to buy it and be disappointed.

Thanks to any and all who help out

Yes, the vast majority of the areas are wide open deserts or fields. It's quite a nice change.

More aesthetically pleasing?
The graphics are wonderful, the detail level is amazing, I'm quite happy with it.

Longer?
20 missions as opposed to 13 in Factions, and the distance between them seems much greater.

Bigger?
The map is bigger than Factions, but not as large as Prophecies. I like the size.

There is an abundance of side-quests, and they're interesting, not the same FedEx crap Factions had.

Is the story-line interesting?
Definitely, I'd put it above the other two campaigns.

Are there plot twists?
Yup.

Paragon is nice, I've enjoyed playing as one, can't say the same about Dervish though, haven't made one.

Cool enough. I think I'm gonna give it a week or two before actually grabbing a copy. Let a few more people finish and check for more opinions.

Thanks though. It sounds like they made it a lot more fun than the last chapter

i can only descirbe nightfall as AMAZING...the world is beautiful filled with palaces and forests and it isnt all just arid desert...its filled with unique monsters and beautiful gardens and fountains. i like nightfall a ton more than prophecies and factions. the storyline is great and you level up slower than factions, but faster than prophecies. the missions are challenging, and very fun. nightfall to me seems different than the other 2 campaigns. the heros are great and there are awsome new pets for rangers.(crocodiles and rats!). i tried playing dervish and paragon, but absolutley hated paragon and dervish was "ok". i didnt really like either of them too much, but i made a ranger and he fits in well in elona. i havent beaten the game yet, but im pretty far and ive never been so absorbed in a game....its definatley the best game ive ever played to say the least..

Is it less claustophobic? Yes- more open, in some ways like post seering Tyria
More aesthetically pleasing? Definately more so than Cantha. Vast vistas and better graphics.
Longer? Not too sure, about half way through
Bigger? Seems to be
More "do what you want" and less "herd you to the endgame"? There is definate direction to the endgame, but several side quests. however, the sidequests still progress you forward to the endgame. I would say its about the same as Cantha, yet the endgame seems more cohesive.
Is the story-line interesting? Much better imo than Cantha's story
Are there plot twists? Not like Tyria, but there are a few so far.
Are the new characters fun to play with different feels to them than the ones that already exist? I'm having a lot of fun taking out multiple groups at once with my Dervish. Great to see all those multiple damage numbers without my Warrior using Hundred Blades. I personally like the Heros portion. Lets me make my nuker and my MM and others without concern that henchies will try something stupid.

I'm a GvG addict and I haven't GvG'd ever since Nightfall came out.
Normally, I'd rush through PvE. Till now, I've done every single quest there is, just because it's sooooooooooooooooo much fun, somehow. The best GW of all three!

"Is it less claustophobic?"

Without a doubt. They've even made many areas wide open spaces where you're not confined to a path.

"More aesthetically pleasing?"

Absolutely! If you remember the "wow" factor that came with Prophecies, you'll be pleased to know that it's back. Some of the monsters are works of art in appearance and movement.

"Longer?"

Yes, 20 missions and so far I haven't ran into any timed missions. But I've only done 3 so far, so can't say what's down the road. The first 3 missions, however all have different requirements for getting the bonus, tho.

"Bigger?"

Yep, not quite the size of Prophecies, but plenty of room to roam.

"More "do what you want" and less "herd you to the endgame"?"

Yes.

"Is the story-line interesting?"

I think the story line is better than Prophecies. Player-character involvment is greatly increased. they've even got the Hero Henchies involved!

"Are there plot twists?"

So far, they've kept it quite interesting

"Are the new characters fun to play with different feels to them than the ones that already exist?"

I'm enjoying my Paragon, and the people I know who have Dervishes are loving it! With the intorduction of Heroes, the whole game has a different feel to it, as you have a great deal of say in how good they are and what they do.
